The legislator once again moved a clemency resolution for Afzal Guru, who is facing the death sentence for
the Parliament attack in December 2001.

“If the US can talk to the Taliban, New Delhi can talk to Naga militants why can’t the UJC be made part of a dialogue process in Kashmir? It’s important to have them on board for the Kashmir resolution,” said Rasheed, who represents the north Kashmir frontier constituency of Langate, which has witnessed severe militancy in the last two decades.

“Even if all political parties reach a solution, militants fighting on the ground need to be taken into confidence. Otherwise, a solution will be difficult to implement,” he said.

Rasheed, an independent legislator, submitted his resolution in Jammu before the assembly, scheduled to meet in the last week of this month for the budget session.
