Respite from cold wave as nights become warmer

In further respite from the ongoing cold wave, minimum temperature in most parts of the Valley settled above the freezing point on Sunday, due to overcast conditions.

The minimum temperature in Srinagar settled at 2.3° Celsius, over a degree up from Saturday night's 0.9° Celsius, a meteorological department official said.

The night temperature in Pahalgam also appreciated from the previous night's low of minus 0.8° Celsius, to settle at a low of 0.7° Celsius, the official said.

Gulmarg settled at a low of minus 0.4° Celsius, as against the 0.3° Celsius recorded a night earlier, she said.

Kokernag recorded a low of 2.8° Celsius, as compared to Saturday's 1.4° Celsius, while Kupwara recorded a minimum of minus 1.3° Celsius against the previous night's minus 1.7° Celsius, she added.

Qazigiund recorded a minimum of 0.4° Celsius, even as Leh continued to be the coldest place in the state with no change in its overnight temperature, which settled at minus 8.5° Celsius, the official added.
The MeT department forecast the weather to remain dry, with a slight fall in night temperatures in the next 24 hours.
