The government would make all possible efforts to restore the ‘original glory’ of the Kedarnath temple in Uttarakhand that suffered major damages in the recent floods.

Minister of culture Chandresh Kumari Katoch said that the ASI team which was sent to assess the damage had to return due to bad weather.

“Since the temple is completely cut off, there is no means to assess the damage. Preliminary photos, however, show the extent of damage but unless the team visits the temple, it will be difficult to describe the quantum of damage,” said Katoch.

Maintaining that the ministry will make an effort to ensure that other heritage sites remain unaffected by calamities, she said, “We have to take a comprehensive view on how to protect our heritage sites from the vagaries of calamities.”

“We will get the estimates, then seek clearance from the Uttarakhand government. After this, we will start our work within a week,” said Katoch.
