This refers to the report Dust settles, builders back in business (February 10). The MCD’s action has been an eyewash. The MCD cannot be trusted to do an honest job unless its officers, who have developed vested interest, are transferred. The transfer exercise should be carried out at fixed intervals. If the MCD is not checked, it will soon rob Delhi of its beauty, shatter the peace of its residents and loot the government of its revenues.

They’re regular people
This refers to Gautam Bhan’s article Section 377 is unnatural (February 9). I endorse his view that gays and lesbians should be given a hearing. The problem is with people who think that homosexuality is abnormal. People in India cannot accept anything that is out of the realm of so-called norms. Why don’t people raise their voice against heinous crimes like rape and paedophilia instead?
Our society needs to change its viewpoint and treat people as equal irrespective of their sexuality. What people do in their bedrooms is none of our business.

Sensitive to touch
Worldwide Protests by the Muslim community over the caricatures of Prophet Mohammad published in a Danish newspaper is justified. But to resort to violent means like torching embassies is not.
Whether it is paintings by M.F. Husain or anything else, people should learn to respect the sentiments of all faiths.

Hamas at a crossroads
Ever since the Hamas emerged victorious in the recent Palestinian elections, there is an air of confusion over what political approach will be towards Israel. It is too early to suggest that having been an active terrorist organisation all these years, it will now bolster suicide bombings and killings.
Now, when all eyes are set on it for a change enabling peaceful coexistence, Hamas has an exigent task cut out for itself. Being a part and parcel of Palestinian polity, the onus lays on its shoulders to propagate peace and harmony. Hamas is at a crossroads where, to stay in power it has to prove its worth by adopting fair policies.
