It is outrageous to describe Srinagar as being akin to a ‘medieval Islamic urban centre’ (Art of Survival, June 17). The city’s local architecture uses a combination of wood and bricks and has evolved over the centuries. The city’s history goes far beyond the advent of Islam. After the forced exodus of Hindus from the Valley 17 years ago, there is now a sinister attempt to rewrite history and change the names of towns.
