RAJIV GANDHI Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya Vice-Chancellor Prof M C Gupta, who had been facing charges of irregularities, was finally shown the door by Governor and Chancellor Dr Balram Jakhar on Friday.
Dr S N Verma, Dean, Industrial Technology, UTD, RGPV was made the in-charge vice-chancellor till the time a regular vice-chancellor could be posted at the university.
The ouster of Prof Gupta has not come as a surprise. The Raj Bhawan took note of the complaints of financial,administrative and academic irregularities against the outgoing vice-chancellor. A single-member committee of Justice Shambhu Singh was instituted on February 4 to look into the charges.
The committee submitted its report on April 22, on the basis of which the chancellor’s office issued a show-cause notice to Prof Gupta on May 6. He was asked to reply to the notice by May 22, which he did.
However, apparently dissatisfied with the reply of Prof Gupta, the Governor decided to remove him from the post today. It was learnt that the major points of irregularities on the basis of which Prof Gupta was removed were problems in the appointment of Class III and Class IV employees, funding construction of boundary wall to the residence of then higher and technical education minister Archana Chitnis and admitting students beyond capacity in PG courses ignoring the disapproval of All Indian Council of Technical Education.
