The board, according to the sources, has refused to clear the song, Jana gana mana rann hai… because “the way words have been added, isn’t respectful to the national anthem”.

One of the producers Sheetal Talwar, however, said on Friday they hadn’t heard from the censor board. “They told us that Vinayak Azad, the regional censor chief, is travelling at the moment and they will get back to us on the coming Wednesday.”

He said he was surprised to hear that the song had been banned. “We’re hearing that the song has been banned.. and that’s not the right word. The song is very pertinent in today’s times. If you visit blogs on various sites …. you will see that it has brilliantly caught the mood of the nation.”
