Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah led a group of MLAs of various parties in paying rich tributes to former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on his 61st birth anniversary Thursday.
The Chief Minister unveiled a life-size portrait of YSR in the main lobby of the state Assembly and offered floral tributes.
Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy, ministers, MLAs and MLCs belonging to Congress, Praja Rajyam, CPI and CPM also joined Rosaiah in offering tributes to the late Chief Minister.
The principal Opposition Telugu Desam Party stayed away from the event.
Earlier, TDP deputy leader Gali Muddu Krishnama Naidu raised objection to the installation of YSR's portrait in the Assembly lobby saying it was unprecedented.
"Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy and P V Narasimha Rao, who served as Chief Ministers, went on to become the President and the Prime Minister of India respectively. Even their portraits were not installed in the Assembly," Gali pointed out during Zero Hour.
He also found fault with the Speaker for taking a "unilateral decision" on the issue.
The Speaker, however, warned the TDP member saying his decision was well within the rules.
Meanwhile, the Congress Legislature Party met in the Assembly committee hall prior to the commencement of the session and paid homage to YSR.
