Papps made 126, including 18 boundaries, while Richardson struck 11 fours in his 92, the pair enjoying good batting conditions in their final warm-up game before next week's first test against England at Lord's.

The Kiwis were 203 for no wicket at tea before Kent seamer David Stiff struck twice in quick succession to remove both openers, Papps falling lbw and Richardson bowled.

Nathan Astle was unbeaten on 32 at the close with Scott Styris on 14.

New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming missed the match with a stomach injury but should be fit to play in the first test starting next Thursday.
