RIM says email scanning not possible on blackberry

Research In Motion (RIM), the company that owns BlackBerry, on Tuesday said it does not have a facility to allow monitoring of encrypted emails. Hence, it cannot meet the demands of security agencies that want access to monitor emails. HT reports.

Research In Motion (RIM), the company that owns BlackBerry, on Tuesday said it does not have a facility to allow monitoring of encrypted emails. Hence, it cannot meet the demands of security agencies that want access to monitor emails. This statement comes in the wake of the demand by intelligence agencies around the world, including India, for RIM to allow monitoring of emails.

UAE and Saudi Arab have threatened to ban BlackBerry services if monitoring is not provided. Indian agencies have also expressed concern.

"The security architecture for enterprise customers is purposefully designed to exclude the capability for RIM or any third party to read encrypted information," said Canada-based RIM in a statement assuring its customers about security and privacy. "Governments have a wide range of resources and methodologies to satisfy national security and law enforcement needs without compromising commercial security requirements."
