The bail application of UPCC chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi, arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Mayawati, was on Thursday rejected by a local court in Moradabad.

The bail plea was turned down by the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate KK Shrivastava.

Joshi was arrested last night and remanded in judicial custody in Moradabad by the court.
She has been booked under section 153 A (delivering inflammatory speeches) and section 109 of IPC (using abusive language) besides provisions of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for making remarks allegedly defamatory to Mayawati in connection with her government's compensation to rape victims.
