The Rashtriya Lok Dal president Chaudhury Ajit Singh on Monday attacked the state government for large-scale corruption in recruiting constables in the police department. Singh said the concept of corruption-free police was impossible when there had been big deal in the appointments.
Addressing a party rally in Ghazipur on Monday, Singh said if recruits pay Rs 5 lakh each for job in police they could not work honestly. He further said in this situation the registration of FIR was impossible without money. Expressing concern over rampant corruption in the government, Singh, whose party has been sharing power with the Samajwadi Party, added that corruption had been flowing from top to bottom. Singh asserted law and order situation is fast deteriorating because of the police protection to criminals. He said even small-time politicians had been provided security which has caused resentment among the people.
Earlier talking to newsmen in Lucknow, Singh, opposing the state support price for sugarcane, said an action plan would be chalked out next week. He added Rs 10 per quintal hike in price in sugarcane for the current season was not acceptable. The leader said the recommendations of Lyngdoh committee to regulate students union elections should be implemented strictly. Laying stress on weeding out criminal elements from varsity campuses, Singh affirmed elections should be held in free and fair atmosphere. He said discussions were underway with various political parties for electoral alliance. However, he said there was no urgency because the assembly poll could be delayed. He said formation of the next government would not be possible without his support.
Singh said the development of the state was not possible without its further division. He added the RLD was the first party to raise demand of Poorvanchal in the assembly. He said earlier chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav was in favour of small states but now he had changed the stand. He said movement for Harit Pradesh in western UP had been expedited.
