RLD strikes deal with Congress

THE RASHTRIYA Lok Dal, an ally of the ruling Samajwadi Party in the state, is reported to have struck a deal with the Congress. The party, which had so far been giving outside support to the Congress-led UPA government, may join the coalition government. The Congress has reportedly agreed to induct Chaudhury Ajit Singh and Anuradha Chaudhury in the coalition government.

The party, which had so far been giving outside support to the Congress-led UPA government, may join the coalition government. The Congress has reportedly agreed to induct Chaudhury Ajit Singh and Anuradha Chaudhury in the coalition government.

Facing anti-incumbency, the RLD has not been pulling on well with the SP in the state. Despite being in the government the party took out rally in Poorvanchal to win over farmers in the region. The tone and tenor of the rally, which received good response, was like that of opposition parties. Irrigation minister Munna Singh Chauhan succeeded in mobilizing the people in the region.

The party had also launched Jayant Chaudhury son of Ajit Singh in Poorvanchal during the rally. The move is to gain ground in Poorvanchal so that possible loss in western UP because of “anti-incumbency” can be compensated.

The RLD ministers in the State government have also not been feeling comfortable, as there is a strong feeling about the party paying the price for being in the government.

Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav is also reported to have several rounds of meeting with Ajit Singh. The relationship between the SP and the RLD started deteriorating during of the panchayat elections.
