THE CBI raid on North Eastern Railway (NER) TTE Bachchulal in a disproportionate assets’ case and subsequent investigations have laid bare a railway recruitment racket. Primary investigation indicated the involvement of some top railway officials in the almost decade-old racket being run by Bachchulal and his brother Bedilal, a chief TTE.

The Special Task Force (STF) had unearthed the recruitment racket earlier and had arrested Bedilal for his involvement in the paper leakage of a railway examination. Sources revealed that the CBI would also add Bedilal’s name in the case during further investigation.

During its raid on Bachchulal’s residence yesterday, the CBI team had collected valuables, which included jewellery worth Rs 75,000. The sleuths were scrutinising the documents seized from the house to estimate the cost of the total assets owned by the accused.

Continuing its search today, the CBI sleuths found Rs 72,000 deposited in Bachchulal’s accounts with the Central Bank of India, Naka Hindola, and State Bank of India, Ismailganj branch. The sleuths have sought details from the bank to scrutinise the frequency of hefty transaction Bachchulal made.

Sources further revealed Bedilal and Bachchulal were well connected and had strong influence on top railway authorities. The STF team too had found details about property and valuables disproportionate to income from Bedilal’s house and they had sent a report to the Income Tax Department then.

However, the sources said the CBI team would now probe into the recruitment racket too and interrogation of Bedilal and Bachchulal would unveil the names of other railway officials involved in the racket.
