AS PART of a nationwide strike on the call of the All India Railway Men’s Federation and Northern Railway Men’s Union (NRMU) against the apathetic attitude of the Union government in the implementation of ‘strike agreement’, railway employees and activists of three branches of NRMU, Varanasi, staged a massive demonstration jointly at the office of station manager in Varanasi on Tuesday.
Divisional president of Northern Railway Men’s Union (Varanasi branch) Dr Pradeep Sharma, who led the demonstration, said the railway employees had proposed a nationwide strike on March 1 in support of several demands.
However, he added, the Union government had assured them their demands would be fulfilled within two months.
“The apathetic attitude of the Union government to fulfill their demands is a mater of grave concern for railway employees,” he said.
Dr Sharma demanded immediate interim relief order for railway employees till the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission report.
He added the railway administration was scrutinising the railway posts.
He called upon the railway employees to be united and ready for any agitation if it were to take place.
He warned the Union government to give up the lackadaisical attitude or be ready for a massive agitation from railway employees.
