ANNOYED WITH the allegedly apathetic attitude of the state government in resolving the demands, employees of Uttar Pradesh Roadways Corporation took out a procession and staged a demonstration at General Manager NE Railway office in support of their 15-point charter of demands. They handed over a memorandum to the GM and said the employees would have no option but to go on strike if the government did not fulfil their demands.

Expressing his views, president of UP Roadways Corporation Ramesh Tiwari said that employees of the corporation were being meted out stepmotherly treatment by the government. Presiding over the dharna, president of State Employees Joint Council Jagdish Prasad Pandey demanded that the service length of roadways employees should be increased for two years.
Mazdoor Union leader RD Chaturvedi said that anomalies in recommendation of the 5th Pay Commission should be removed before constitution of the 6th Pay Commission. He said that corporation employees should be provided 50 per cent DA as per state employees and demanded regularization of the daily wages employees.
The leaders of the employees’ union said they would step up their agitation if the government did not wake up from its slumber and said that on February 21, thousands of roadways employees would stage a dharna and demonstration in Lucknow in the second phase of their agitation.
