Mohammed Salim, alias Tunda, was gunned down during a chase, while his two accomplices managed to flee during the shootout, Special Superintendent of Police Akhil Kumar said.

Salim, a Meerut resident, was wanted for robbing Rs 20 lakh from a trader in Shalimar Garden on May 23.

“Three men were spotted by a police patrol on GT Road near Sahibabad. When they were asked to stop they ran towards Rajnagar and opened fire on a police van. In a retaliatory fire, one was shot,” Kumar said.

Since January, police have killed 10 alleged criminals in nine such encounters.

In the last 21 days, four alleged criminals have been shot dead by Ghaziabad police.
