Armed robbers barged into the house of a 36-year-old exporter in the wee hours of Friday at Suncity, an upscale gated community on Golf Course Road, and fled with jewellery and Rs 20,000.
The victim, Manu Dang, was hit on the head with a plumbing tool and received 15 stitches.
The robbers also decamped with an electronic safe which they failed to open, police said.
Dang, who runs an export house in Delhi, was alone at his residence when the robbers, wearing masks, struck around 3am. Police officials said the robbers sneaked into the house by breaking open the window in the drawing room.
"I was fast asleep when a robber woke me up and hit me with a blunt object. One of them was carrying a dagger. He kept a watch on me while his accomplices ransacked the house," Dang told HT.
"There was no security guard around the house at that time. My wife, with the children, was at her parent's house,” he said.
Dang said he was held hostage by the robbers, who tied him up with his shirt and bedsheet. "When I resisted, they threatened to kill me if I raised an alarm," he added.

Dang's wife Anjuman, said, "I received a call from my neighbours at 5am and rushed home. The robbers fled with silver jewellery, Rs 20,000 and mobile phones.”
Meanwhile, the police have registered a simple case of theft and not of robbery.
Maheshwar Dayal, DCP (crime), said, "We will soon identify the culprits."
The number of robbers has not been confirmed yet.
