You can’t call it her movie debut, not technically. But this Kolkata girl, very visible in the promos of Rock On, wants to be the next big thing in Bollywood. Ummm.
Shahana Goswami (you may remember her from Yun Hota to Kya Hota and Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd) plays Debbie, Arjun Rampal’s love interest.
“I think it’s the film’s most interesting female character because it has a progressive graph. She starts out as Arjun’s girlfriend and becomes his wife, so she’s not just a jumpy, jazzy sort,” says Shahana.
She studied at Mumbai’s Sophia College and worked in the production department of a theatre group called Working Title, besides acting in an adaptation of the Anton Chekhov play Seagull.
Shahana was cast by Naseeruddin Shah in Yun Hota to Kya Hota. “I was noticed. I wasn’t supposed to act in Honeymoon.. but I met the director for some production work. The role of Geena just happened.

“For Rock On, I met (director) Abhishek Kapoor, did an audition and was selected. Arjun Bali’s Ru Ba Ru with Randeep Hooda, which I completed years ago, is actually my first film in the lead. But it’s taken a long time in post-production. It should be released this year,” she says.
Currently, she is shooting for Sudhir Mishra’s Tera Kya Hoga Johnny?, Avik Mukherjee’s Bhoomi and Nandita Das’ Firaaq.
