Seed: 1

Grand Slam titles: Seven (Wimbeldon 2003, 2004, 2005,Australian Open 2004, 2006, U.S. Open 2004, 2005)

Seeking a hat-trick of titles at the All England Club, the Swiss will start as strong favourite on a surface that allows him to indulge in his full range of strokes.

Rarely flustered on court but was in his French Open semi-final defeat by Rafael Nadal, a loss that is likely to have sharpened his appetite for another Wimbledon crown.

Federer appears near-invincible on grass where he can interchange playing from the baseline or the net with hitting down either flank.

Last year's victory at Halle took his streak to 29 matches unbeaten on tennis's fastest surface and the world number one's rivals can only hope he suffers one of the occasional off-days that appear to be his only flaw.
