Romania's former world middleweight champion Marian Simon has lodged the first protest of the Olympic Games boxing tournament after his defeat at the hands of Egypt's Ramadan Yasser.

Simon, who was a silver medallist in Sydney, lost his round of 16 bout to the Egyptian 36-24, a decision which prompted howls of derision from the crowd.
