Just before the inauguration of show at which Agriculture Minister Choudhary Chandrabhan Singh was the chief guest, A R Khan had spoken to the Hindustan Times on the importance of a nursery code to stop exploitation of common public by the mushrooming nurseries across the State.

Khan, who was the driving force behind setting up of the society in 1979, said that huge numbers of nurseries have mushroomed across the State, but there is no control on their activities although they do business worth lakhs.
He said that these nurseries rampantly sell diseased plants and also do not care about pest control. He said that a Nursery Act would be helpful in curbing this.

Khan also underlined the need of setting up of a monitoring committee inclusive of representatives of research institutes (universities and colleges) and private organisations working in the field, to control the irregularities in the horticulture activities at higher level.
