UNPRECEDENTED AND irregular power rostering has affected business, research and work in government hospitals. It has also added to the woes of the zoo inmates.

Besides the pre-announced eight hours rostering during the day, emergency night rostering, local line faults and extremely low voltage have made the people miserable . They can neither sleep properly nor perform their duties with efficiency.
On an average, the power supply remains absent for over 12 hours in a day. The official rostering is from 7.30 AM to 3.30 PM. But after the rostering, the supply of power is on such a low voltage that many electrical gadgets like deep freezers in ice candy shops ,water lifting pumps in high rise buildings and at the Jal Sansthan can not be operated .
For the past two days, the municipal water could not be supplied even in the posh localities due to low water pressure. The residents of high-rise buildings having no generators also remained without water as the submersible pumps could not be operated for want of required voltage and constant power supply.
Many ice cream joints in the city have given up business as they can not store ice cream in the deep freezers for want of power. However, the long power cuts proved to be a boon for mobile ice cream vendors who use ice to protect the ice-candy.
The research projects at Chandra Shekhar Azad Agriculture Technology University (CSA) and at Harcourt Butler Technological Institute (HBTI) were badly hit due to non availability of power. The two institutes have generators but fiscal crunch does not permit their use for a long period. Research scholars who needed to preserve biogenic samples at a fixed temperature in the laboratories for research purposes, are unable to avail of this facility and their research projects are lying idle.

The zoo authorities are the worst sufferers. Though they have generators, but fund crunch come in the way. They cannot operate tubewells for long hours with generators. But the intermittent power supply during night and that too at low voltage put the zoo authorities in a hapless situation.
