Books a big draw
Jewellery and royalty were the biggest attraction for many delegates. The bookshop at the hotel shopping arcade sold a number of books on jewellery. "Apart from the books, the delegates loved the zari embroidery-bound writing books of hand made paper. They asked if we could send them to their countries," said Rita Gulati, manager of the bookshop.
Albright flattered
Former US secretary of state Madeleine Albright on Friday must have been overjoyed when she returned to the jewellery shop at the Maurya hotel, which she had visited when she last came with former president Bill Clinton. The shop had her’s and Clinton’s picture admiring wares. She spent a lot of time in the shop.
Air chief walks in unnoticed
They were probably so used to seeing him in uniform that it took a while for ushers to realise that the gentleman who walked inconspicuously to the conference reception desk was Air Chief Marshal S Krishnaswamy himself. Besides the unassuming Chief of Air Staff, another dignitary who attended the session on Saturday was the Vice-Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-General Shantonu Chaudhry.
