Rs 1, 14,529.95 cr released for rural programmes

This amount is about 47.8% higher than the total outlay for Tenth Plan of Rs 77,474 crore, reports Satyen Mohapatra.

The Ministry of Rural Development has released Rs1, 14,529.95 crore during the Tenth Plan which is about 47.8% higher than the total outlay for Tenth Plan of Rs 77,474 crore for rural development programmes.

Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh disclosed this at a meeting of the Consultative Committee of Parliament on Wednesday.

Highlighting the physical achievements under major programmes during the Tenth Plan he said that under Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana, 68.13 lakh works had been completed, generating 351 crore man-days of employment.

Under Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana, 14.87 lakh Self-Help Groups (SHG) have been formed and 46.46 lakh Swarojgaris have been assisted.

Under Indira Awas Yojana during the period 67.44 lakh houses have been constructed/upgraded, 3.01 lakh habitations and 1.97 lakh Schools have been provided safe drinking water under Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme and under Total Sanitation Campaign, 165.13 lakh Individual Household Latrines and 2.99 lakh School toilets have been constructed.

Under National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 5.4 lakh numbers of works have been undertaken. Out of which, 1.97 lakh works have already been completed and 3.43 lakh numbers of works are in progress.
