Rs 233-crore bus rapid transport plan cleared

SPECIAL THOROUGHFARES for the fast running City link buses will soon become a reality in the capital with the Union Ministry of Urban Development clearing part of the ambitious Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) project of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

SPECIAL THOROUGHFARES for the fast running City link buses will soon become a reality in the capital with the Union Ministry of Urban Development clearing part of the ambitious Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) project of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

During a meeting held in Delhi on Friday, the Union Urban Development Ministry cleared part of the Rs 498 crore BRTS project.

The part of project cleared on Friday is worth Rs 233.39 crore and entails construction of special thoroughfares for the City link buses on a 21.71-km stretch between Bairagarh and Misrod.

These thoroughfares are envisaged as special zones within the existing routes that will specifically cater to the fast running City buses and special bus stops on the line of metro rail stations.

Pedestrian paths and cycle tracks will also be constructed and greenery developed along the entire route. Under part of the project that has been cleared, the route to be developed will pass through Lal Ghati, district collectorate, Royal Market, Sadar Manzil, Moti Masjid, Kamla Park, Roshanpura to Hoshangabad Road and on to Misrod.

The second phase of BRTS project will be cleared only when the first phase is implemented successfully, officials were told at the meeting.
