TENDERS TOTALLING Rs 270 crore for laying pipelines and construction of overhead tanks for the Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded Narmada-III project will be invited on January 17.
Of these, a Rs 256 crore tender will be for laying gravity, rising, raw and clear water mains connecting the intake well to overhead tanks built for the Narmada project that will supply the City with 360 million litres daily (MLD) of water upon completion in 2009.
The other package is for construction of 14-odd overhead tanks at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore apiece and the work is likely to be completed within 18 months. A total of 21 OHTs are to be built for Narmada-III of which tenders for the first batch of 7 have already been awarded.
The proposed revamp and upgrade of the Yeshwant Sagar filtration plant and repair of leaky pipelines is also being carried out at full tilt. This information was provided by Prabhash Sankhla during a review meet of ADB funded projects chaired by Mayor Uma Shashi Sharma Monday evening.
Sankhla is the Project Officer, Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the Urban Water Supply and Environment Improvement Project (UWSEIP), of which Narmada-III is the largest component.

{{/usCountry}}The Project Officer informed the Mayor that there was a possibility that the pipeline laying tender may be delayed slightly as the bidders had sought extra time. He, however, assured the Mayor that the project would be up and running well before the scheduled date of completion.
The Mayor announced that review meets of ADB projects would be held every two months to ensure that the work did not lag behind schedule. It may be recalled that UAD Commissioner Malay Shrivastava recently expressed concern over the tardy pace of ADB and JNNURM-funded projects at a meeting in Bhopal.
