Rs.344 crore flood control projects for city okayed

The state government on Wednesday gave its approval to 94 flood control projects worth Rs 1000 crore for Uttar Pradesh. Out of these, four projects of Rs 344 crore have been approved for Lucknow.

The state government on Wednesday gave its approval to 94 flood control projects worth Rs 1000 crore for Uttar Pradesh. Out of these, four projects of Rs 344 crore have been approved for Lucknow.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the UP State Flood Control Council chaired by irrigation minister Shivpal Singh Yadav. Speaking at the meeting, Yadav gave the green light to four projects of Lucknow, including construction of Mehdi ghat upstream of the Gomti near Hardinge bridge (Rs 3.89 crore), embankment from Amar Saheed Path to Gomti Jalsetu on the right bank of the river (Rs 96.73 crore), embankment from Lucknow- Sultanpur highwaytoAmarShaheedPathon the right bank of the river (Rs 81.81 crore) and from Amar Shaheed path to Gomti Jalsetu on the left bank of Gomti (Rs 162 crore).

Yadav said the embankments would be constructed using new techniques involving geo-bags instead of stones. Post March, all the projects would be reviewed and action taken against the chief engineers.
