THE STATE Government has made provision of Rs five crore in the State sickness assistance fund this year. The sum will be spent for treatment of 16 identified diseases.
A sum of Rs 2.66 crore and another Rs 2.34 crore have been kept reserved towards district sickness assistance fund and the State-level committee respectively, an official release said on Wednesday.
More than 3,000 people have been benefited under the state sickness assistance fund plan in the State so far, the press release claimed. District-level committees have been constituted in the current year by the State Government to sanction cases up to Rs 75,000 at their own level.
Three diseases related to brain, neuro surgery, and MDR have been included along with the earlier 13 identified diseases related to cancer surgery, renal surgery, knee replacement, breast surgery, hip replacement, neuro surgery, body-parts transplantation, spinal surgery, post delivery complications, coma, retinal detachment, heart surgery, industrial accidents, bomb explosion, natural calamities and accidents due to agricultural equipment, the release said.
People living below poverty line are being benefited under this scheme in the State. The assistance is provided to the member of the family suffering from the identified disease once in a life time and amount of minimum Rs 25,000 to a maximum Rs 1.50 lakh incurred on treatment is paid directly to the recognised hospitals of the State as well as of the country.
Under the state sickness assistance scheme, sixteen hospitals, including five hospitals related to medical colleges are recognised by the government namely Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre, Bhandari Hospital and Research Centre - Indore, CHL Apollo and Bombay Hospital, Indore and all the hospitals of the government medical colleges.

Further, Jawahar Lal Nehru cancer hospital - Bhopal, Navodaya cancer hospital, government cancer hospital - Gwalior, Indian institute of head and neck oncology at cancer hospital Indore and hospitals of all the government colleges are recognised for the treatment of cancer, the release added.
