The uproar over the ongoing tirade against north Indians by Raj Thackeray in Mumbai found an echo in Ludhiana on Monday, with Akhil Bhartiya Poorvanchal Vikas Parishad — a registered organisation representing lakhs of migrant labourers from the Hindi speaking belt — putting a Rs 51 lakh bounty on Raj’s head.

The migrants’ body that claims to have seven lakh registered members and offices in Ghaziabad, Noida, Mumbai and Ludhiana, also declared they would “burn alive” any Maharashtra Navnirman Sena activist visiting the city.

“Jo vish failata hai or gaali dekar izzat karvana chahta hai, us insaan ko jeene ka koi haq nahin. Jo bhi us Thackeray ko goli marega, use hamari sanstha Rs 51 lakh ka cash inaam degi (One who spreads poison and uses fear to force respect has no right to live. We will give a Rs 51 lakh cash award to anyone who guns down Raj),” said the Parishad’s all-India president, T.R. Mishra.

He urged members to become a Rahul Raj, the youth who was gunned down by Mumbai Police last week.

“It is better to go to jail after burning or killing a hate propagator like Raj rather than let the entire nation burn in the heat of regionalism and hate crime,” said Mishra.

He said Parishad members unanimously resolved on a bounty after Raj’s emissaries visited Ludhiana yesterday to hold talks with “like-minded” people to launch a Mumbai-like drive to ensure that migrants are “flushed out” from Punjab.
