By-election to the seat has been necessitated following the Election Commission’s decision to disqualify Jaya Bachchan for holding office of profit as Chairperson of Uttar Pradesh Film Development Council.

Since the UPFDC chairperson’s post has not been exempted from purview of office of profit, Jaya Bachchan tendered her resignation from the same recently.
