THE EXAMINATION for 126 posts of radio station officers (RSO) in the police telecom department that was to be held on December 11 was today postponed under mysterious circumstances. In the absence of senior IPS officers, the department has been facing a messy situation. While the DGP headquarters expressed ignorance about the postponement, there was no IPS officer at the telecom to look into the matter. The leaderless organisation has been left at the mercy of four deputy SP level officers.
Following the suspension of additional director general police (telecom), BK Bhalla on November 29 after his controversial report on terrorism and transfer of IG, KK Saxena as IG Varanasi last week, the department has been left without a head. The post of DIG is lying vacant. Inexplicably, the government has so far not bothered to fill the three top slots in the department.
In a statement, state radio officer (administration), RS Dewevidi said that for certain unavoidable reasons the examination had been postponed. While the DGP headquarters said that a deputy SP level officer could not order for the postponement of the examination of sub-inspector level, Dewevidi told Hindustan Times that the examination had been deferred, as there was no board after the transfer of Saxena. When asked who ordered the postponement, he said that it had been done in a routine way because of Saxena’s transfer. However, Saxena could not be reached for comment.
The telecom department, which of late had been in news for large number of appointments at various levels, had announced to appoint 126 RSOs through direct recruitment. Additional director general (establishment), AK Gupta said that the DGP headquarters had no role in the recruitment, as the telecom wing had its own establishment board, headed by IG telecom.
