Eight years later, Modi adopted this village under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana - a high-profile project launched by the PM himself. Under this scheme, each MP has to adopt a village in his constituency to remodel it as an ideal village.

For the last 35 years, the RSS is organising a shakha (a training exercise for nation building) in the village without fail. The first shakha was started by Shiv Narayan and now, RSS leader Arvind is carrying forward the tradition.

Imprints of RSS teachings can be found in almost every household in Jayapur - a tulsi plant and a cow - considered sacred in Hinduism.

However, the village has always faced apathy of district officials. It has always been the last to receive benefits of state government schemes. It lacks drainage, hand pumps and toilets are almost missing from most of the houses. Patel is the dominant cast in this village with a population of 4,200.

Many villagers from abroad and several districts in Maharashtra and Gujarat are scheduled to return home before Modi arrives on Friday. The entire district administration is working overnight to give a facelift to the village.

Two nationalised banks - the State Bank of India (SBI) and Union Bank of India - also announced they will open their mini-branches in the village.
