The race, organised by the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) was held as part of Jalabhishek-the State Government’s ambitious programme to conserve and harness water resources.

Mayor Dr Uma Shashi Sharma flagged off the race from Gandhi Hall at 6:30 am. The race was divided into two legs. The first, for professional athletes, called for runners to make their way from Gandhi Hall to Palasia before retracing their steps and then wending their way through Sabzi Mandi, Rajwada before finally terminating at Gandhi Hall.

The other leg was for the general public, which participated with gusto. Cutting across age and societal barriers scores of eager runners pounded the pavement from Gandhi Hall to Palasia and back.

Kirti Kumar Barde and Nima Sherpa stood first and second respectively in the professional category. Among amateurs the first prize in the women’s category went to Malti Godayya while Mahendra Kumar Sharma bagged the first position among the physically challenged. Raakhabchand Joshi overcame the other contenders to emerge victorious in the senior citizen’s category.
