Rural bank employees strike work

RESPONDING TO the call given by the Joint Forum of Regional Rural Bank Union (JFRRBU), all the regional rural banks across the country went on a nationwide strike on Friday.

Nearly 70,000 RRB employees and officials participated in the strike, by keeping the banks closed all over the country. The 13 RRBs, with 1,031 branches and 7,000 employees in the state kept away from functioning. Claiming it to be a 100 per cent success, the JFRRBU mentioned that the one-day strike had affected business transaction worth Rs 7,500 crore in Madhya Pradesh itself. In 45 districts of the state, the RRB employees staged demonstrations and raised slogans for their five-point demand.

According the joint forum, the RRB employees have demanded compassionate appointments, parity in allowance at par with the sponsoring banks, introduction of pension schemes at par with the sponsoring banks, recruitment and promotions. The JFRRBU has also sent a memorandum in this regard to Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

He said AIBEA has also written to Chidambaram for expeditious settlement of demands. “If the demands are not meant, the agitation would be fierce,” cautioned Sharma.
