Rural development is still a challenge: Kalam

The 'Missile Man', says the development of country's rural areas is a challenge even after half a century of attaining Independence.

Rural development continues to pose a challenge for the country, former president APJ Kalam said on Wednesday.

The 'Missile Man', who was in Pune to confer the 'Punyabhushan award' on senior scientist Dr Raghunath Mashelkar, said the development of country's rural areas is a challenge even after half a century of attaining Independence.

He said Pune, which was in the forefront of the country's freedom struggle, represented its intellectual heritage. "This great city should continue to play its role in making India a super power."
