Rural employment scheme reviewed

MEMBER OF the Planning Commission R Bandopadhyay reviewed the progress of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in four districts in Varanasi and Vindhya divisions here on Monday. The member, taking stock of scheme for Chandauli, Jaunpur in Varanasi division and Sonebhadra and Mirzapur districts in Vindhya divisions, expressed his satisfaction over the pace of work.

The member, taking stock of scheme for Chandauli, Jaunpur in Varanasi division and Sonebhadra and Mirzapur districts in Vindhya divisions, expressed his satisfaction over the pace of work.

Holding a meeting of district magistrates and Chief Development Officers of the four districts, he directed them to ensure the timely implementation of scheme at the village panchayat level. The concerned people must ensure the registration of unemployed and poor youth on time. The State Village Development Commissioner, Sitaram Meena was also present in the meeting.

Meena informed that 33.5 lakh candidates had applied for the scheme in the State out of which 32.11 lakh were registered. The government issued job cords to 31.37 lakh candidates out of which 13.64 lakh got jobs in the villages.

The DMs and the CDOs kept the Planning Commission member and the State Village Development Commissioner aware of progress of scheme in their districts.
As many as 200 districts had been identified for the scheme throughout the country out of which 22 districts remained in UP for the implementation of scheme for the removal of poverty, providing job opportunities to the villagers.
