Russian flavour

It was a colourful whirlwind of a dance and music show presented by the Russian troupe comprising youths aged between 17 and 24 years this Thursday evening. The programme at Ganna Sansthan was held under the aegis of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). The dancers regaled the audience with as many as 18 items?five songs and 13 dances. For those hailing from one of the coldest parts of the world, the sudden drop in mercury that had chilled the warm-blooded Lucknowites was but only pleasant. Of course, dancing and singing on stage was not all they did in sheher-e-Lakhnau.

“We went around town and saw Imam Bara and Roomi Gate...the monuments are so beautiful...the dress worn by the girls here are so graceful....and the people so friendly, welcoming and warm!” This was the refrain—albeit, in a mix of broken English and mostly Russian—of the young bunch, who had already been to Mumbai and New Delhi and now, are heading for Kanpur. Their only grudge was against the stage at the venue and the lights that were too harsh on their skin! But the delicious food offered to them more than made up for it, they said.

Sabira Habib, who compered the programme was mighty impressed by the adaptability of the troupe members as also their communication ability despite the lingo hitch.
