Resident Welfare Associations are treading with caution on the BJP's victory in the elections to the newly trifurcated Municipal Corporation of Delhi, welcoming the saffron party's win but refusing to repose high hopes on it.
"The parties often fail to deliver after elections. With the advantage of smaller corporations, we hope that Delhiites will get their due. Projects such as the 100-day work programme should be made to deliver and the mayor shouldn't be out of bounds for the local population," said Pankaj Agarwal, of the Delhi Joint RWA forum, an umbrella body of 300 organisations.
"It would be a chaotic run for a couple of years as nothing was planned before the trifurcation. But in the long run, separate municipal corporations for the south, east and the north would make the approach more local, and area-specific issues would get resolved in time," said Rajiv Kakaria, of the GK I resident welfare association.
The organisations hope that the mayors, who are to be elected in a week, will consider their demands to include their views in development plans.
