South Korea's Parliament voted on Wednesday to send non-combat troops to Iraq, handing a big political victory to new President Roh Moo-hyun.

The opposition-controlled National Assembly backed the plan to send about 700 medical and engineering personnel despite deep opposition within South Korea to the US-led war to oust Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
