S'pore Indian jailed for molesting girl

An Indian national who molested a 12-year-old girl in Singapore was sentenced to seven months in jail and three strokes of the cane, news reports said on Wednesday.

Gaphure Khan, a 32-year-old chef, admitted to molesting the victim on June 25, 2005.

Khan, who had been working in Singapore for three years at the time of the offence, will also lose his permanent residency status and be deported to India after completing his sentence, lawyer Vinod Kumar Dube said on Tuesday.

The victim was at a house for a relative's engagement for which Khan was the caterer, The Straits Times said.

After the ceremony, he approached the girl, who was playing with a cat on the street, and molested her twice, the report added.

The youngster shouted and fled to the house in tears. The police were called soon after.
