He alleged the Congress leaders had distorted the report to serve their vested political interests. “The issues that were discussed during the drafting of the report are not mentioned in the report that was tabled on Thursday,” he said.

“We had demanded special opportunities for the Muslims, but the report is silent on the issue,” he said, adding that Muslims were already getting general opportunities. “Union Minister AR Antuly tabled the report without reading it,” he said. Demanding Antuly’s removal from the Cabinet, Azam said that it only indicated how serious the government was about the report.

Khan said that the Sachar committee report threw light on the educational and economic condition of Muslims in the last 58 years. The Congress ruled the country as well as various States for 45 years and during its rule, the condition of Muslims only deteriorated. “Post-independence, the representation of Muslims in government jobs was 34 per cent, the figure today stood at just one per cent. No one but the Congress is responsible for the plight of Muslims,” he said.
