Sachin Tendulkar promised that the Indian team would give its all to win the World Cup which starts next month. In response to an innocent query of a schoolboy from Jhundpur Village in Sonepat, the Indian batting legend said: "We will try our best; rest is in god's hands."
All eyes are on Tendulkar & Co to end India's 28-year-old wait for a second World Cup win. And the expectations are high given that the tournament is being played at home.
Tendulkar was speaking at a function to launch the Support My School campaign, a movement for healthy, active and happy schools.
Tendulkar has broken almost every batting record in the book and given his superb form, the record-run is set to continue for a couple of years. "I just go out and play, the records come along the way," Tendulkar said.
He advised the Indian students to put their heart into studies and bring laurels to the country. "The most important thing is to enjoy what you want to do; your work should be fun and you will excel in it." About the secret of his longevity in the game, he said, "Every sportsmen has to take care of his fitness. Sincerity in your work or training is important."
He emphasised the need for discipline for success in one's career. "Give your all in whatever you are doing. When I train or play, my focus is hundred per cent on it."
