On Wednesday, the party’s state president Akhilesh Yadav said the law and order situation has become a problem in the state and demanded immediate intervention of the central government. "An absence of a positive response would lead to a serious situation." he said.

Asked if the SP would withdraw support from the central government, Yadav said, “it is for the media to interpret”. The party’s statement came immediately after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told a group of editors in Delhi on Wednesday that the UPA government had good relations with the Mayawati government.

Yadav said BSP leaders are pressurising government officials to accept their illegal demands. Officials who refuse are being threatened with suspension, he said.
