Simarjit Singh Mann-led Shiromani Akali Dal on Wednesday announced "unconditional support" to independent candidate for the Taran Tarn constituency, Tarlochan Singh Tur.
Addressing a press conference here, SAD(M) General Secretary Bhai Ram Singh said "this significant decision was taken in the meeting, held under the supervision of Party President Simranjit Singh Mann who asked the party executive to extend all kind of possible help to ensure the victory of Tur who was denied ticket by the SAD (Badal) this time."
Singh said "Mann is still thankful that Tur had withdrawn from the contest in 1989 at his request when he (Mann) was in fray. Now Mann wants to reciprocate the gesture."
Tur was elected in the last Parliament Election when he fought election on the SAD(B) ticket. But this time Badal has fielded Rattan Singh Ajnala.
