The demonstrations that erupted soon after TV channels showed the execution of Saddam on Saturday continued for a second day, police said.

The protestors set out from a Muslim locality, Gujjar Nagar, shouting slogans against the US and President George W Bush. As policemen tried to stop them, the crowd insisted on marching ahead. The police then cane charged them.

Peaceful protests were held separately at Khatikan Talab locality in Jammu against the execution of Saddam Hussein.

The border town of Rajouri witnessed a large demonstration on Saturday, attended by an estimated 5,000 people who walked through the main market.
