Safdarjung rape accused let off on bail

The main accused of in the rape of a 30-year-old woman in Safdarjung Hospital last year was on Saturday granted bail by a Delhi court as the victim had failed to identify him.

Additional Sessions Judge SP Garg released Sanjay alias Sonu on bail on a personal bond and surety of Rs 10,000 admitting a defence plea that the victim had not identified him and the DNA samples of the prosecutrix did not match with his.

Sanjay, a resident of Shahpur Jat, was arrested on September 16 last year, two days after the alleged rape, and on his disclosure, police arrested Hari Om, from whose possession they claimed to have recovered jewellery robbed from the victim.

The court framed charges of rape, criminal intimidation and robbery against Sanjay while Hari Om was charged with dishonestly receiving stolen property.

The charges were framed just over a month after the police filed a report in the case stating that the DNA samples of the prosecutrix did not match with that of the accused.
