BUREAUCRATIC RED tape has prevented two scientists here from presenting abroad their papers and do research on drugs related to treatment of TB, cancer and AIDS.
Dr Y P Singh, project officer in Government Women’s Polytechnic College, and Dr Ratnesh Das, a contract lecturer in Dr Hari Singh Gour University here, had done computational studies on anti-TB, cancer and anti-AIDS drugs.
This was probably for the first time the research was done on computational spectroscopic modelling of anti-AIDS drug. On the Independence Day, Dr Singh was honoured by the minister in charge of district, Kailash Vijayvargia, for his works.
Both want to do computational molecular modelling to elucidate the synergised effect of free radicals causing cancer cell death and to develop models of hydrophobic drug delivery. Currently, use of anti-cancer drugs has many side effects. The research can minimise the side effects.
Because of their research work, the Annual World Congress invited them to present their work in the international conference that was organised in Boston from August 7 to 10 this year. Both of them submitted applications to the Government of India for travelling grant. Nothing came of it.
The State Government also did not give permission to attend the conference. Dr Singh has also been invited to conduct research on anti-cancer drug for one year by California State University (US) from January 2007 but till date the Department of Technical Education has not responded to his application. Three more universities — University of Hall of United Kingdom, University of California-Irvine, and University of Bradford (UK) had also invited them to conduct research going in their respective departments.
