Some fishermen at Neendakara in Kollam saw the vessel moving at a high speed at around 0800 hrs and alerted the Marine Enforcement Wing which immediately passed on the information to the Coast Guard, Circle Inspector I K M Sajeevan of the MEW said.

The vessel was finally spotted at about 1300 hrs off Thotapally in Alapuzzha and intercepted. A search of the Tuticorin-registered boat 'Sharon Rose', however, yielded nothing. The boat, with 12 workers, was on its way to Beypore in Kannur to load cement, he said.

Security has been tighthened along the entire Kerala coast in view of the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai with the Marine Enforcement Wing and Coast Guard keeping a strict vigil.
