The South Asian Journalists Association (SAJA) at its 11th convention has honoured veteran Indian-American journalist Amrit Kakaria.

He was presented with a plaque and a citation which recalled the long career he had with the Economic Times, India Abroad and INFA.
Accepting the award, Kakaria suggested that SAJA, which has several awards for South Asian journalists working in the ethnic and mainstream media, institute awards for those who own the media and invest in it.
"Such recognition would motivate at least some entrepreneurs to invest more strongly and owners to accord greater respect to our profession," he said.
"We well know that journalism has suffered setbacks from the occasional disastrous encroachment into the editorial field by an owner looking for name recognition. This could be a small remedy," he added.
SAJA has a membership of around 700 journalists and aims at uniting South Asian journalists to ensure that their concerns are taken care of.
